WHAT WE CAN LEARN FROM LILITH: BLACK MOON IN LIBRA

newmoon_blackmoon.jpg

In the dark of the moon we're given the opportunity to explore our shadows, what Jung referred to as the unconscious aspects of our personalities or the unknown, “dark side” of ourselves.  *Lucky for us (yes, said with a hint of sarcasm) this month we have two New Moons (known as a "Black Moon") which means we can get *extra cozy with our shadows ... (aka all the parts of ourselves we try to ignore or avoid).

In terms of The Feminine Shadow, Lilith most represents the archetype hidden within our psyches.

As the story goes, she was shamed and shunned by Adam for standing in her power, for not submitting or consenting to him governing over her, and then she was accused of birthing demon armies that would come to slay Adam’s innocent lineage in the night.

Far from being “evil” or cavorting with demons and devils, Lilith was actually just standing for her sovereignty.  But the birth of patriarchy had a different perspective that disagreed with a woman who would not submit, and so she was shamed.

The power of this archetype continues to create discord in our psyche’s to this day, because just like Lilith, our shadows most often emerge out of shame.

Shame is born from many things, but most often it stems from abuse, trauma, conformity and lack of self worth ... and as women, this shame most deeply extends to our bodies and sense of self.

As women we are taught to be “good girls” which means to suppress our natural sensuality and sensual connection to the natural world.  We are taught to suppress our sexuality and to only express it in ways that are “appropriate” (in which we receive really conflicting messages from the media that sexualizes us from the time we are young).  We are taught not to be bossy, not to be too smart or too loud.

This world is a very confusing place for a woman’s psyche because we are engrained in shame but expected to pretend like we're not.

In the face of shame, we try to conform elements of our identity to fit in - and unfortunately in the process - we disown and distort our relationship with ourselves  by trying to keep the shameful parts of ourselves buried under happy looking masks pretending to be: smart enough / thin enough / pretty enough / like we have it all together / like we haven’t ever fucked up or felt a debilitating lack of self worth or misused or abused our bodies along the way.

Amidst all the confusion, what this moon wants to know is: how have you misused your femininity?

How you have sacrificed your sovereignty?

How you have neglected your wild feminine nature?

Maybe you’ve used your body as a tool to get what you want.  You’ve dumbed down, sat out or tolerated mistreatment.  You’ve had one night stands, stayed silent or forsaken yourself.  You’ve conformed to capitalism in how you look, feel and think.

This moon says NOT IN MAMA’S HOUSE.

The archetype of Lilith immediately brings up people’s judgement of her - mostly because she is a wild woman - and instead of being taught how to nurture the natural elements of our wild nature as women - have been taught to live tame (which usually equates to lame) lives.

A really key example of how we deny our wild side is expressed in our monthly cycle.  We are expected to show up our entire cycle as we do in the first half.

The fist half, when we are in our waxing energy as women we are confident, energized, communicative and social.  But the second half as our hormone production shifts and we wane, we become receptive, sleepy, intuitive and desire isolation.

As women, the second phase of our cycle is where our shadow side lives.  It's where our WILD NATURE needs to breathe, but when we don’t give our psyche’s and our bodies what they need in the second phase, our body, (beyond our logical mind) revolts.  The truth is, we wouldn’t be nearly as emotional, depleted or “bitchy” if we had the societal permission to recede, rest and honor the wild nature of our body instead of continuing to shame and abuse it the second half of every month.

But back to your feminine core.  We already know the affect society and shame has had on you ... and so what we need to know now is ... how have you misused yourself?

Have you given your body away too many times?  Have you ignored your sensual and intuitive connection with nature?  Do you ignore your cycle and burn your body out every month on booze and caffeine?  Do you avoid the parts of yourself that demand your attention and love?  Do you feel shame towards your bleed or numb out your body’s messages throughout the month?  Have you been living as a victim instead of taking responsibility to heal whatever wounded you?

Lilith begs you to get real with parts of yourself you've spent your life avoiding.

She wants you to channel your wounds into worth by claiming the sovereignty of your wild side.  She doesn't care how it looks or what other people think, all she cares about is what the word WILD means to YOU as a WOMAN.

Because what is wild to me might be tame to you.  What feels tame to me might terrify you.  She wants you to stop conforming and start being TRUE to what your wild nature needs.

Think on this.  Feel into it.  The only thing you need to know is that underlying your personal definition, YOUR WILD NATURE is the innate essence within you as a woman that connects you to your feminine nature.  It doesn't have to look like anyone else's interpretation.

For me wild means natural and cyclical.  It means sacred.  It means intuitive.  It means fierce and feminine.  It means connection to my body, my sensuality, my sexuality and my bleed.  It means nurturing the inter-dimensional depth of my spirit daily.  It means getting out of town, away from concrete and cars.  It means being barefoot with salt water in my hair + sun and wind on my skin.  It means attuning to the subtle realm of energy that courses through my body and the cosmos.  It means knowing that my greatest gifts are not linear or logical and that the meaning of my life is not about how my body looks, what my job is or what others perceive of me …. FOR ME BEING WILD IS ABOUT WHO I AM beyond material definitions.  And because I'm being real, the thing I come to most often these days is, my wild side not giving a fuck about all the things I've been taught to give so many fucks about.

So in the fertile darkness of this Black Moon, knowing that your wild might, but doesn't have to look anything like mine, light a candle, sit with your journal and ask yourself:

Where have I sacrificed my sovereignty?

Where have I misused my femininity?

What does wild mean to me?

What do I need to do to nurture my wild side?

Let this Black Moon be your call back to the wild.  Ask yourself these questions and then ask yourself what steps you need to take in order to reclaim your wild feminine sovereignty (aka your supreme, unrestricted, unlimited nature).  If you feel weak, let Lilith slither in and lend you some of her sovereignty … but most of all, let yourself have compassion for your shadows and be open to the wisdom you receive.

The world is in a state of pain and chaos.  Out of balance and aching for justice in a way that gives us all the permission to be ourselves and to not be persecuted for it.  This moon stands for justice and intimacy in our sense of self expression, our lives and our relationships ... most of all, it stands for you being just with yourself.

We need you wild and free,  Ashly xx.

FOOLISH DREAMS: PISCES FULL MOON

There's this common human theme, where we have a dream and work towards what we think we want, only to get it and realize it's not actually what we want.

Some find this to be a defeat ... they think of all the time or money or opportunity that was lost to what they thought was their dream.

BUT THATS THE WHOLE POINT OF A DREAM!

To dream deeply and let it fill you with desire and action ... until one day, you wake up, ready to begin dreaming a different dream.

But we aren't culturally conditioned to be aware of, let alone nurture the dream seeds that sprout into different dreams.   We are taught to hustle.  To rise and grind. That if we work hard, our dreams will come true.  But dreams don't always work that way. Sometimes they take patience, practice and perfect timing … And, sometimes they shatter completely, serving as a force to shake and wake us up.

The latter is what's been happening in the midst of the eclipse sandwich we've found ourselves in this month (from the Virgo New Moon / Solar Eclipse to the Pisces Full Moon / Lunar Eclipse that hits today) ... WE HAVE BEEN GETTING SHAKEN AWAKE.

Eclipses are polarizing portals that usually shake our foundations a bit - and for good reason - because sometimes we need to change our course, but because of our stubborn human-mindedness, we try to stay comfortable and ride out the storm.  But this cosmic storm is not meant to be ridden out.  This storm is meant to rip you apart - in the most divine way.

Pair all that eclipse business with a Full Moon in Pisces, and we are DEEP in the unknown, subconscious realm, the space in between dreams.  The watery element of the feminine is mystic and like dreams, she doesn’t always want to reveal her meaning.

What you need to know is that there are unseen forces at work … all in service of your dreams. YOUR dreams. Not the dreams you think you should be dreaming but the dreams your soul longs for you to dream, the hidden dream seeds that desire to sprout.

The thing is - most of us avoid acknowledging and living these dreams, because following them is terrifying.  Anyone who has followed the longing of their heart knows, the unknown can be a fucking terrifying place.  The voice inside says, “what if I fail, what if I fall, what if I’m a fool?

Well … so what?

All of those things are possible … but you must know, we all fail.  We all fall.  We all feel like fools.  And this storm wants you to fail.  This storm wants you to fall.  This storm wants you to be a fool.

Since we’re on the topic, let’s talk more about fools. The Fool is one of my favorite cards in the Tarot because it’s about new beginnings, spontaneity and innocence ... and that's the magic hidden in this moon.

This is the description of The Fool from Kim Krans, creator of The Wild Unknown Tarot:

“The fool is ready to fly.  His young wings ache for the flight and with a single step he leaves behind the comfort of the nest to begin the journey.  Is he ready? Will he fall?  This card is about beginnings.  It points to the side of you that is naive, excited, spontaneous, and inexperienced.  Others may doubt your abilities.  Be ready to be called “the fool”.  Be ready to fall.  No matter what people say about you, this is your journey … and it’s already begun.”

This is your journey and with all the chaos of the eclipses and this Full Moon, you have a choice.  Will you lick the razors edge and dance with the danger of your dreams?  Or will you try to cling to your comfort?

Dreams give us insight and awareness into who we are, what we want, what we have to offer and how we want to spend our precious time creating lives that give us meaning.

But dreams are like dominos, they live in a space of fluidity ... and as we evolve, they evolve ... knocking into one another flowing through the waking reality of our lives.

It takes courage to dream and courage to know when you’ve outlived one.

Full moons are times of fulfillment.   A time to reflect on what has transpired over the past month, or generally, what has led you over the course of your life to become who you are.

Let the light of this moon illuminate the dual nature of your dreams.  What they have been, who you have been … and let yourself recalibrate to realize WHO you are now and what dreams will support your journey.

As Joseph Campbell says ... “The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek" ... so cozy up to your fear, see what it has to tell you.  Is it keeping you from your dreams or pointing you towards them??

And ... yes these are trying times, but reach into your curious heart and lighten it up.  Let it be playful.  How is the divine dunking you?  What waves is she throwing your way?

Keep courage in your heart and remember, all endings are just new beginnings in disguise.

Eclipses aren't easy, but they are revealing and revolutionary if you allow them to be.  Here’s to licking the razor’s edge with a courageous and curious heart,

Ashly

WHAT IF EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT: VIRGO NEW MOON + SOLAR ECLIPSE

It’s known that Solar Eclipses alter the amount of sunlight that reaches the Earth, what is less known is what an energetically powerful experience this has on our bodies, spirits and psyches.

What happens is, things become amplified and revealed ... and so all the nooks and crannies we try the hardest to avoid, suppress or remain blissfully ignorant about (you know things like fear, limiting beliefs or self destructive habits) come up to rear their heads, demanding us to give them our attention.  As Chani Nichols says:

One aspect of life is eclipsed so that another can be revealed.

Both Mercury’s station retrograde and the new moon/solar eclipse occur in Virgo. Both have a quality of intrigue to them. Both are asking us to look at life from a different angle.

A mysterious one.

Because sometimes we are aware of these things and sometimes we aren’t.  But what happens strongly with eclipses, is that even if we don’t logically know what’s going on, we feel these things we try so hard to avoid.

And we feel them deeply.

And as humans, when we feel, we tend to condemn and criticize it as weakness or we spiral deeply into emotional overwhelm (or both).

Yes, sometimes we need to process things emotionally … but often these types of emotional overwhelm and self condemnation repeat within our psyches and our lives like a broken record, consciously and unconsciously affecting our reality, without actually being processed because we are too busy falling into judgement or victim mode around whatever is coming up.

So what I want to ask you is: what if everything was perfect?

What if (even if you didn't know why) every experience was perfect?  Every good, every bad, sad, sorrowful, painful, gorgeous, traumatic moment?

What if every thing that has ever happened (however absurd or fucked up) and every way you have ever felt was actually p e r f e c t ?

This notion of everything being perfect is a Tantric one, and it states that everything happens as it does for us to expand our awareness.

In Tantra, awareness replaces judgment, and in this way, each moment becomes an opportunity to deepen our knowledge of self and to accept ourselves by gaining more and more awareness of ourselves instead of more and more judgement of ourselves.

In this way, all of our mistakes actually serve as a cosmic learning curve to come home to who we truly are.  To learn how to come home to how we are.  And to remember that we are perfectly designed, divine beings.

In this way, we, as in you and me and everyone you’ve ever met, is perfect.  Every experience is perfect.  And every experience we’ve ever had is simply to lead us closer and closer to accepting our own worth, wisdom and perfection.

Eclipses serve as portals of mystery and discovery, and what is happening right now with the Solar Eclipse and the New Moon in Virgo is no different.

Right now we are being offered a huge opportunity to become aware of ourselves (our tendencies, our habits, our projections, our patterns, our fears), and to remain open to the mystery without going down the rabbit hole.  Because when everything is perfect we don't condemn or play victim: when everything is perfect operate from a place of awareness instead of judgement.

Because she says it so much better than I do, this is Laura Anne from The Rhythm Way’s Astrology for this Virgo New Moon + Solar Eclipse:

Early in the pre-dawn hours, this new moon solar eclipse is an invitation to get closer to What Matters Most. Virgo is the sign of the priestess - the one who brings spirit into matter in order to celebrate it. An Earth sign, Virgo wants to touch, to feel, to dance, and to steward the manifest while simultaneously seeing deeper into the world than is common in the village. She stacks all of her choices - how she chooses to move her body, whom she is in relationship to, how she moves through her day, by turning toward her greatest ally - the current of life force energy that animates and ensouls all things. She does not take things at face value, but rather sees the divine everywhere, and knows how to evoke it. In this way she is truly one who is whole unto herself. She knows that what she chooses to pull through from the formless depths, is what is created here in tangible ways. She knows what she tends will bloom.
New Moons are the beginning of a cycle, and what is planted here can catch and grow in the waxing light to come. Solar eclipses block the force of the solar radiation enough to reset our consciousness here on earth. We have space to intend anew, and what we intend, we receive. This is practical magic. And the Priestess/Virgin of us knows this well. To be whole unto oneself and to steward life force energy we become active participants in the world we want to see. We step out of the victim aggressor paradigm rooted in power over structures and be co-participants with life herself.
This new moon solar eclipse, Virgo reminds us that not one of us is broken. We are all whole. We are all complete. We all have the power to lean into the conversation and change things for the better.

So on this New Moon, what I ask you is: instead of looking at who are you and how you’re broken, who are you and how are you whole?  How has each moment been a teacher, serving to lead you back to yourself?  And (especially if it hurts) how can you accept the mystery of these teachings?

And because yes, I know this energy can be intense, I really invite you to work with the Earth sign of Virgo and express what desires embodiment through your body + being by finding what brings you into physical connection with your body or sensual connection with Mama Earth.

Maybe its through running, screaming, swimming in a like, dancing like a maniac, hiking, crying, feeling your bare feet on the grass, connecting to your breath or gardening.  For me right now, it happens to be through injury.  Yes it hurts, yes its inconvenient and yes it is an excellent teacher.

Because there is divinity in the mystery and polarity of life ... and beyond notions of right or wrong, this divinity accepts all that is.  All the good, all the bad.

This doesn’t mean it’s easy.  It's tremendously vulnerable.

So know, that even if feels like it, know you aren't alone.  We all stumble home.  No one get’s it right the first ( ... or second or third or forth) time around.  That’s the point.  We learn through experience.  We gain awareness through living, breathing and feeling our way through life.  By allowing ourselves to stumble through the dark, we find the light.

You know what they say, how it's always darkest before the dawn?  Sit with the mystery and use this moonless night to wander back home.  Allow yourself to ebb and flow and to know that you are both a masterpiece and a work in progress … and you are perfect.

AQUARIUS FULL MOON: CRYSTAL VISIONS + FEMININE WISDOM

We are still in Leo season, which means it's a great time for us to continue accessing our personal power in order to RADIATE our medicine into the world.

But in order to truly live from our personal power we have to be able to access our inner knowing.  And in order to access and accept our inner knowing, we must own the parts of ourselves we’ve disowned.  We must call our magic back ... and to truly do this, we must stop suppressing the parts of our body and psyche that carry our deepest wisdom.

And that’s where the watery and intuitive Aquarian nature of this moon asks us to shine our love and awareness.

What it seeks to know is: where have your denied your feminine intuitive wisdom or denied / abused / ignored the wisdom of your sexual center?

As women, we have two incredibly powerful guidance systems that we can tap into regularly based on 1. the phase of the moon and 2. the phase of our menstrual cycle.  Unfortunately, most of us are so disconnected from our wild nature and the wisdom of our sexual center that we suppress or deny this wisdom when it arises.

For women, inner visions come the strongest during our Premenstrual and Menstrual Phases … this is when our logic decreases and intuition increases.  As key hormones plummet in preparation for our bleed, we enter into a deeper state of instinct and, if we are willing to tap into it, mysticism and non-linear wisdom.

“The wild nature carries the bundles for healing; she carries everything a woman needs to be and know.  She carries the medicine for all things.  She carries stories and dreams and words and songs and signs and symbols.  She is both vehicle and destination.” Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Each of us carries this unseen medicine within our cells and each of us carries the ability to connect to our intuition and receive the inner guidance we need in order live in alignment ... but in order to access this wisdom, we must choose to live in alignment with it.

The beautiful thing about each Full Moon is that it's illumination affords us the opportunity to see where we are or are not living in alignment with ourselves.

And that’s what this moon is about: Aquarius is the visionary and Leo gives us the courage to have a healthy relationship with ourselves and our cycles in order to stay tuned into our inner guidance.

If we combine these elements, it boils down to having the courage to trust our visions and our cyclical wisdom.  To trust our intuitive visions, the messages we receive from our bodies and to honor the phases we go through each month and each moon.

When we experience flashes of insight, ideas that pour forth or feel called to pursue something, even if we can’t explain why … this sense of inner vision is an element of Aquarius ... and it's also an element of our innate wisdom as women.

The problem is, for most of us, our vision and wisdom has been shunned or shut down.  We've been taught to deny the wisdom of our womb, to doubt our inner knowing, to dismiss our non-linear insight, to suppress the wisdom of our feminine cycles.

But inner vision / wisdom isn’t something to dismiss or brush aside ... because when this wisdom or vision is suppressed, it leads to distortion in our psyches, our lives and our souls.  This distortion causes us to doubt, to ignore and mostly, to continue to accept things as they are instead of having the courage to see how they could be.

So many of us suppress ourselves in this way.  We suppress what we need for nourishment, we suppress our intuition, we suppress our expression, we suppress our natural gifts, we suppress our sexuality, we suppress our body's physical, emotional and intuitive wisdom, … and when we suppress ourselves, we suppress the magic and medicine that is waiting to reveal itself through us.

But we suppress it because somewhere along the way we were told it was BAD.  At some point, most of us were told something about our inner knowing or our sexuality was wrong.  We were likely told these things because it felt threatening to someone else in some way or they just didn’t understand it.

There isn’t need for judgment or blame here, it’s just a level of consciousness / fear that we need to be aware of and rise above in order to have faith in accessing the medicine that lives within us that wants to be revealed.

It takes GUTS, GRACE AND GUMPTION to own your inner vision, to own your sexual power and to honor the wisdom that arises within your body each month.  It takes time and patience and practice to learn how to connect with and manifest your truth.

It also takes self awareness and acceptance.  You can’t fully share your medicine with the world if you aren’t willing to do what it takes to take your own medicine in order to honor and hone in on your own healing and evolution.

Your work on this Full Moon is to tune into where you've suppressed your inner knowing or denied your wisdom as a woman (physically, emotionally, sexually, intuitively) … and to shine your light of awareness and compassion there so that you can forgive and release that energy in order to create space for what desires to emerge.

If you need to release shame or limiting beliefs around yourself or your wisdom, your womb or your visions, try this releasing ritual ... (the energy of the Full Moon builds the 3 days leading up to and the 3 days descending from the actual date of the Full Moon, so you have time to do this ritual after the Full Moon if need be).  Don’t think about it too hard + trust what comes up + honor yourself for showing up:

  • Sit with a lit candle at sunset, as the Sun (Leo) gives way to the Full Moon (Aquarius).
  • Spend time reflecting on what’s made you hide your light, suppress your sexuality, feel shame or deny your wisdom, ignore your body.  Get a piece of paper and write out what’s on your heart.  As the moon rises, purify and release what’s stuck by lighting your paper, and watch it rise as it dissolves.
  • Now, with what was holding you back released, ask your inner guidance where you need to place your attention and intention.  Body, psyche, cycle, spirit, sex, love, play, intuition,  … ?
  • Because we still have the fiery action oriented energy of Leo at hand, come up with 3 action steps that will give you the time and space to access your inner vision / wisdom so that it has room to grow.

You deserve to be an empowered, intuitive, cyclical and sovereign being.  You deserve to feel confident honoring your body, your womb and your wisdom ... because this about you but this is also much bigger than you.

The world needs your medicine.  Whether that medicine is just you being unapologetically you or it's sharing medicine that will change the world, we need you in your power, owning your inner knowing, connected to your feminine core.

Love + into the mystic,

Ashly xx,
